Course Description 
Being intentional about relationship-building can make a difference in professional success and the preservation of emotional wherewithal as faculty navigate their careers. This session will guide participants through the identification and mapping of professional networks. The workshop will discuss strategies for cultivating mentors and sponsors and for serving in those capacities oneself.

Learning Outcomes
After participating, attendees should be able to:
  • Identify one action to implement in a relationship or within a networking context in order to contribute to the participants’ professional or personal development
  • Understand the 11 functions of mentoring through giving-type and receiving-type behaviors
  • Independently create professional and personal development plans related to networking using the worksheets provided.

Speaker
Heidi Sherick has over 30 years in higher education in academic affairs, student affairs, and alumni affairs. Heidi is a former assistant dean and the head of an engineering minority program for over a decade. Heidi’s current title is the Director of Leadership development in the College of Engineering at the University of Michigan, where she coaches and sets up faculty for their success and to make their lives easier.
