Let’s be honest: cover letters are not fun to write. But in this webinar, you will learn a recipe to write a cover letter that you can utilize for the rest of your life, whether you are going for an internship, scholarship, job, or promotion. We will discuss the goal of a cover letter, and what elements are included in an effective and compelling cover letter – then write one together. This course is as part of SWE's Job Seeking for Engineers web series.

  • Describe the recipe you can use for writing an effective and compelling cover letter.
  • Articulate your value in a cover letter using the Problem-Solution-Result-Spin Back method.

Alaina G. Levine is an award-winning entrepreneur, STEM career consultant, science journalist, professional speaker and corporate comedian. Her first book, Networking for Nerds, was published by Wiley, and beat out Einstein (really!) for the honor of being named one of the Top 5 Books of 2015 by Physics Today Magazine. She is a regular speaker and consultant for SWE, as well as many other STEM-focused associations, universities, companies, and government agencies. In 2018 alone, she spoke in 7 nations, including a weeklong engagement and keynote in South Africa. She recently completed writing 2 online courses for Oxford University Press concerning career development and entrepreneurship and commercialization, is the event manager for an international conference on phononics, and will start 2019 off as a new monthly columnist for Science Magazine/ScienceCareers.
